By Louie Kavanaugh Jr.
In the traditional opening for the junior high boys’ 7th and 8th grade, Barr-Reeve came away with victories over Loogootee in both games.  In the 7th grade game, Barr-Reeve edged Loogootee 25-22 in a close battle. The Vikings led 14-11 at halftime and led throughout most of the contest until late in the 4th quarter as the Lions took a 19-18 lead.  The Vikings recovered and held on for the 25-22 win. The Vikings were led by Addison Wagler with 9 points, Connor Swartzentruber 6, Josh Graber and Lucas Graber with 3 each.  Ethan Duncheon and Matt Stoll scored 2 each.  It is the third straight victory for DeCoursey over the legendary Coach Lee Kavanaugh since DeCoursey took over the reins as coach of the Barr-Reeve 7th Grade.
In the 8th grade contest, Coach Bret Graber’s team posted a 34-14 win over Coach Chad Wade’s 8th Grade squad. The Vikings led from the beginning as Jon McMullen led the way for the Vikings with 13 followed by Martin Winkler with 9, Micah Bullock, Logan Lengacher and Justin Barnett each added 4 for the 1-0 Vikings. The Vikings led 10-4 after one quarter, 19-8 at halftime, 30-10 after three quarters and winning 34-14. The Vikings next game is at Springs Valley before returning home to hosts Holy Family.
