Barr-Reeve Lady Vikings win over Paoli Rams 58-31
By Louie Kavanaugh Jr.
The Barr-Reeve Lady Vikings ran their record to 11-0 with an impressive win over the Paoli Rams 58-31, as the Vikings placed 8 players in the scoring column. Liz Horton led the Vikings with 18 points on five 2-point baskets, one 3-pointer and 5-6 from the line. She was followed by Hilliary Fox with 15 points on 7 baskets, 1-2 from the line, pulled down 17 rebounds, and 7 steals. Other scoring for the Vikings were Tya Harmon, off the bench, with 6 points and 6 rebounds, Terrell Miller and Morganne Doyle with 5 points each, Lindsey Graber with 4, Audrey Blair with a 3-pointer and Kylee O’Connor with two. Morganne Doyle also pulled down 6 rebounds.
The Vikings raced out to a 9-0 lead on a 3-pointer by Liz Horton, a basket by Lindsey Graber and two baskets by Hilliary Fox. The Vikings increased the lead to 13-2 as Hilliary Fox and Liz Horton connected from the field and the first quarter ended with the Vikings on top 13-4. During the second quarter, the Rams hit a couple baskets to cut the lead to 13-8, but that would be as close as they would get the rest of the game as the Vikings out scored Paoli 14-6 for a halftime score of 27-14. The Vikings forced Paoli to commit 9 turnovers in the first half and many of those turned into fast breaks for the Vikings.
The Vikings continued their quest in the third quarter as they outscored the Rams 20-9 to lead 47-23. The Vikings used great ball control in the fourth quarter as they finished off the Rams 58-31 to claim their 11th win of the season.
Coach Mark Holt was pleased with his team’s win as this is the first game for Barr-Reeve in two weeks. He said, “I think they are working together very well and very unselfish. They look for each other out on the court and whoever has the open shot, that’s who they look to. They are having fun at this point and I can see the smile on their faces and they are enjoying what they are doing.” When asked about the play of his twin towers, Holt said, “We have contributions from a lot of players, but yes, Fox and Horton are leading the way and at this point I am pleased with their effort and the team as well. We just hope to get better and that is our goal as we have some very tough games coming up so we want to be ready.”
The Vikings shot 43 percent from the field as they held Paoli to 34 percent. Barr-Reeve was 9-14 from the free throw line while Paoli was 3-4. The Vikings out rebounded Paoli 35-21 and in turnovers the Vikings committed 14 to Paoli’s 20.
Towards the end of the game, Paoli Head Coach Dusty Cole was whistled for a technical and moments later one of the Paoli fans was shown the door as one of the officials had enough and asked him to leave the gym.
The junior varsity Vikings fell to Paoli 35-19 to drop the junior varsity Vikings record to 5-4 on the season.  Kayti Taylor led the Vikings with 9 points followed by Corri Cummings with 6 and Bridget Graber with 4.
