Lions knock down North Knox
Just a few days removed from his first complete game, senior righty Roland Slaubaugh held his composure long enough to duplicate the feat on the road Tuesday night in the squad’s first Blue Chip Conference meeting at North Knox.  Slaubaugh had just enough left in the tank to survive a ferocious Warrior rally that ended 5-4 in favor of the visitors.  Freshman Bryant Ackerman, batting lead-off for the first time, drew a seven-pitch walk to open the game and senior catcher Patrick Bowling promptly sent him homeward with a RBI double to right center.
In the next frame, Josh Divine was issued a two-out free pass, stole second, and raced home on Ackerman’s RBI hit.  Down 2-0, the hosts tied the game with two of their own in the bottom of the third.  The game remained knotted until the top of the sixth when Loogootee put up three crucial tallies.  Held to just two hits, Derek Parsons, Mitch Harder, and Tyler Bratton all came through with singles, and Matt Tucker’s ball to right was misplayed for a game-changing error as eventually all three who recorded hits crossed home in the outburst.
North Knox retaliated with a single run in the sixth on a two-out double.  Slaubaugh surrendered another run and faced second and third with just one down before getting two pop outs to the right side to end the contest.  Loogootee completed their opening week 3-1.
