Loogootee soundly defeats South Knox
With the weather adventures in southern Indiana this time of year, it was no surprise that South Knox was forced to move their home varsity baseball date with Loogootee to the Lions’ Les Page Field.  It was also no surprise the way that the locals won the Blue Chip Conference affair rather handily 11-2 as the Lions’ Roland Slaubaugh continued his mastery on the mound.
Outside of a somewhat wild second frame when he hit two batters and also handed out a base on balls, Slaubaugh was efficient in going the distance for another complete game outing.  He also helped himself with a RBI in both the first and second innings.
Leading the way at the dish was senior right fielder Tyler Bratton who stung the ball for four singles.  Patrick Bowling also ripped up SK’s hurler for three hits and Josh Divine blasted two balls for base knocks.  The Lions ran at will on the Spartans signal caller, and the visiting team’s defense surrendered at least four errors in the loss.  Slaubaugh struck out six, and when he wasn’t getting them on strikes, Bowling and Mitch Harder were recording ground ball outs from shortstop and third base respectively.
The Lions remain undefeated in conference play and host three straight opponents on Mr. Page’s turf.  Southridge, Shoals, and Vincennes Rivet trek to Loogootee beginning Thursday evening.  The Jug Rox and Patriots provide Blue Chip battles on Friday night and then Saturday morning at 10 a.m. in a rescheduled contest.
