Lion Softball cruises past Jeeps
Loogootee found their way into the win column with a big Blue Chip Conference victory over the visiting Northeast Dubois Jeeps in Saturday softball action.  The scoring began in the bottom of the second as Jessica Clark got the runs rolling with a one-out single.  Rebecca Craney then reached on a two-base error by the right fielder.  Mindy Fields picked up a RBI ground out, and Jessica Padgett’s RBI double scored Craney’s courtesy runner, Blake Walker.  Up 2-0, the Lions roared for three more in the following frame.  Breann Truelove and Jaclyn Padgett ripped back-to-back two-baggers to begin the third.  Three straight singles off the bat of Jennifer Clark, Jessica Clark, and Craney led to two more tallies and a 5-0 advantage.  The next time up, Kristine Lagree reached on a line drive and ran all the way on Truelove’s deep fly ball to left center for a commanding 6-0 lead.
Dubois was far from done, however, as a two-out, two-strike, two-run double to left center cut the deficit to 6-2 in the fifth.  Then, in the top of the sixth, the losing pitcher, Mackenzie Dorsam, slammed a two-out, three-run ding-dong to narrow the margin to 6-5.
A huge, two-out hit from Jennifer Clark that plated Jessica Padgett and Lagree gave the home team some breathing room in the seventh.  Clark relieved winning pitcher Craney to earn the save by inducing a ground out to shortstop Lagree with two runners on in the seventh.  The two teams pounded out 27 hits, and six Lady Lions had a multi-hit day at the plate:  Jessica Clark, Jennifer Clark, Jessica Padgett, Treulove, Lagree, and Craney.
Junior Varsity Softball wins first contest
Jennifer Clark tossed an easy 11-1 junior varsity contest following the varsity win over Dubois on Saturday.  The Lions went with their freshmen and sophomores, and the two classes pounded the ball all over the park for 11 hits and six defensive miscues by the Jeeps.  Jessica Padgett had three hits, Breann Truelove two, and Allyson Arvin two as well.
Clark’s shutout bid was not to be as NED picked up an unearned run in the top of the fifth to get on the board.
The Lady Lion reserve team plans to play a conference reserve schedule as well as a few other contests throughout the season.
