Lady Lions Lose in Nine

Loogootee traveled to Pike Central last Thursday to face off with the softball Chargers.  The affair went extra innings before the hosts plated the winning run in the bottom of the ninth to claim the hard-fought victory 2-1.
Pike picked up a run in the first on a single up the middle and RBI double off the bat of winning pitcher Alizah Cannon.  However, the Lions pounced back in the top half of the second when Jaclyn Padgett got the rally going with a base hit to right filed.  Jennifer Clark followed with a single, and she would eventually scamper home when sister Jennifer Clark reached first on a late throw from third base that got away from the fielder at first.
The game remained deadlocked at 1-1 through the next seven frames before a short fly ball dropped between two Lady Lion fielders, a sac bunt moved the runner, and lead-off hitter Kinsey Willis slammed a hit to the left field gap to keep Loogootee winless at 0-2 overall.
Both Clark girls picked up two hits as they combined for four of the team’s six safeties.
