Lady Lions Rebel against South Central
Perennial regional stalwart South Central came calling on Jack Butcher Sports Arena smack dab in the middle of Black Friday shopping.  The afternoon affair was a new wrinkle in the Loogootee girls’ regular season schedule; one that Coach Dave Smith added knowing the strong program history of the South Central gals.  Each year, it seems, the Lady Rebels show up at the local Class 1A regional, and thus, Friday afternoon’s 55-46 Lady Lion victory was a nice way of giving thanks to the old gold and black.
A first half barrage of baskets by Kelci Mann got the good girls going as they led 25-18 at intermission.  Mann’s 14 was complimented by points from each of the other four starters:  Tiffany Pennington, Waynessa Burch, Wynter Wagoner, and Taylor Walker.
With South Central collapsing the interior in the second half, Wagoner went off in the third frame for 11, including three treys.
However, the Rebels Whitney Pease, who drained three three-pointers in the second quarter to keep her squad within sight of the lead, then hit for two more in the third to go with a lay-up as she helped her ‘mates close the gap to just 38-35 heading into the last stanza.  Pease made her sixth bomb and Shelby Miller got half of her twelve points in the final eight minutes but Wagoner, Mann, Burch, and Pennington all did just enough from the field and foul line in the waning minutes to eke out their third win in four tries.
Mann completed the day with 20, Wagoner, 19, Burch seven, Pennington six, and Walker three.
Meanwhile, Pease equaled Mann’s 20 with the talented Miller being held down to a dozen.
