Lady Lion Seniors slay Spartans
By John P. Mullen
Coach Dave Smith utilized a line-up of four seniors and a sophomore to begin Saturday morning’s wake-up conference call against visiting South Knox, and his veterans did not disappoint in an impressive 48-31 victory inside the Lion’s Den.
With donuts and orange juice; compliments of Buehler’s available for the early morning risers, Lady Lion fans of all ages showed up to recognize Waynessa Burch, Kayla Dant, Audra Lannan, and Kelci Mann in their final regular home season contest. The upperclassmen built an early 14-6 advantage after one quarter and maintained a comfortable lead throughout.
The aforementioned sophomore, Wynter Wagoner, actually led the 11-7 Lady Lion outfit with 13, including two treys. Burch followed with 10, Mann eight, Pennington seven, Taylor Walker six on two three-pointers, and Lannan and Dant each scored two points.
The sophomore Scott cousins, Samantha and Andrea, were both held in check by a stingy Loogootee defense that gave up just nine field goals in thirty-two minutes of play. Samantha got her five all in the last frame while Andrea managed just one bucket.
The convincing Blue Chip ‘W’ assures Smith and the program of their third straight winning season.
